Saint Basil of Ostrog ( Popovo Polje , 1610 – Ostrog Monastery , 1671 ) was a 17th-century Herzegovinian bishop , today a universal Orthodox saint .
He comes from the Serbian Jovanović family from eastern Herzegovina .
Vasilije was ordained in the Monastery of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary . He was elected and consecrated as Bishop of Zahumlje and Skenderija with a see in the Monastery of Tvrdoš near Trebinje .
When the Turks destroyed Tvrdoš , Basil moved to the Ostrog monastery ( Montenegro , near the modern town of Danilovgrad ).
Before the Turkish invasion, Montenegrins twice moved the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog to Cetinje .
